East Carolina Pirates baseball used an explosive offensive performance and dominant pitching to defeat the Old Dominion Monarchs baseball 11-0 Tuesday afternoon at Clark-LeClair Stadium.

East Carolina (9-7-1) controlled the game from the opening inning, scoring in every frame from the first through the seventh while the Pirate pitching staff combined to hold Old Dominion (5-9) to just two hits in the shutout victory.

The Pirates jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the first inning and never looked back. ECU continued to apply pressure offensively, plating one run in both the second and third innings before breaking the game open with a three-run fourth to stretch the advantage to 7-0. The Pirates added insurance runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings to seal the midweek win.

On the mound, Ryan Towers earned the victory with a strong start for ECU. The right-hander tossed 4.0 shutout innings, allowing two hits and one walk while keeping the Monarchs off the scoreboard.

Out of the bullpen, Gavin Marley closed the door with an impressive relief outing. Marley threw 3.0 scoreless innings, striking out four batters while allowing no hits and just one walk to secure the combined two-hit shutout for the Pirates.

The ECU offense was led by a strong showing from the middle of the lineup. Jack Herring paced the Pirates at the plate, finishing 2-for-2 with three RBIs and two walks, delivering several key hits that helped extend ECU’s lead.

Austin Irby also contributed offensively, going 1-for-4 with two RBIs, while Alex Bouche added an RBI in a 1-for-3 performance. Walker Barron chipped in as well, finishing 1-for-1 with an RBI double and a walk.

East Carolina’s lineup showed depth throughout the order. Grady Lenahan reached base three times, scoring three runs while going 1-for-2 with two walks, and Jeff Sabater added to the offense with a 1-for-2 performance, scoring twice and driving in a run.

The Pirates capped the scoring in the seventh inning when Carlos Jacome delivered the game’s biggest swing, launching a two-run home run to walk off the game with the final score being 11-0.
