Can Jeff Hoffman breathe new life into struggling Blue Jays bullpen?

by | Feb 21, 2025

Jeff Hoffman had an All-Star season last year as a reliever for the Philadelphia Phillies. Can he do it again for the Toronto Blue Jays?

Hoffman signed a three-year contract with Toronto a few weeks ago. He is coming off a season that saw him sport a 3.17 ERA with a 3-3 record, 89 strikeouts and just 16 walks in 66.1 innings. He earned a spot on the National League All-Star team and entered free agency after this past season as one of the top relievers on the market.

Sportsnaut.com points out that as good as Hoffman was, the Blue Jays were just as bad. Toronto was 29th in strikeouts (502) and ERA (4.82) while allowing a league-high 92 homers.

After the Braves and Orioles passed on signing Hoffman due to concerns about his pitching shoulder, the question will be whether that was a bunch of nothing and if Hoffman can breathe some new life into the Blue Jays’ bullpen in 2025.
