Arbitration projections could make Alec Burleson possible trade option for Cardinals

by | Oct 8, 2025

Could Alec Burleson no longer be a member of the St. Louis Cardinals?

It may be hard to believe but it’s a possibility. Arbitration is eligible for him and eight other members of the St. Louis Cardinals. Burleson is expected to make $3.5 million in 2026. It’s not a lot but he and the eight others make up $32.3 million of the team’s salary. With the team looking to reduce payroll, that could leave some hard options.

RedbirdRants.com broke down the specifics and what could happen to Burleson and others. Writer Thomas Gauvain wrote in part, “Speculation has already begun as to which of the club’s left-handed hitters — Lars Nootbaar, Brendan Donovan, Nolan Gorman, or Alec Burleson — will be traded. There’s also the possibility that at least one of the club’s arbitration-eligible relievers will be moved this offseason.”
