Four years after being drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the second round of the Major League Baseball Draft, ECU Baseball alum Carson Whisenhunt is getting his first start in the big leagues.
The news was first reported by Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports.

The left-handed pitcher, the Giants’ No. 1 pitching prospect, will start against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Monday. He has been pitching in Triple-A for the Sacramento River Cats but was held out Saturday and added to the Giants’ taxi squad. He was with the team on Sunday but did not pitch against the Mets.
Giants Manager Bob Melvin said after Sunday’s 5-3 loss to the Mets that Whisenhunt would start Monday against the Pirates. First pitch is slated for 9:35 p.m.
Whisenhunt is 3-5 this season with a 5.42 ERA in 104.2 innings pitched over 25 starts. The 23-year-old has given up 63 earned runs on 116 hits with 135 strikeouts and 53 walks. He pitched in the MLB Futures All-Star Game two weeks ago.
