Pirates in baseball: Ryan McCrystal drives in three for Daytona in loss

Ryan McCrystal came through big at the plate for the Daytona Tortugas on Wednesday in his second game back from an injury.

He was 3-for-5 with three RBI in a 16-10 loss to St. Lucie. His three RBI give him 25 for the season and raise his batting average to .267.

He singled and drove in a run in the first inning and singled and drove in another run in the third. He singled and drove in the final run in the eighth.

It was his second game since he had not played from June 1 to 8 due to his injury. He had a seven-game hitting streak come to an end on Tuesday. He was 13-for-31 (.419) with three doubles, a triple, two homers, nine RBI and nine runs before Tuesday.

Josh Grosz

He pitched well enough for Hudson Valley to get the win but got no bullpen help in a 6-4 loss to Greenville.

Grosz started and went 6-1 innings, giving up a run on a hit with six strikeouts and four walks. He was replaced on the mound after getting the first out of the seventh. Greenville then scored three in the eighth and two in the ninth to win it.

Fellow ECU alum Josh Moylan, playing at first base, was 0-for-4.

  • Zach Agnos, Colorado Rockies: Had second straight rough outing in 10-7 loss to Giants. Gave up three runs on a hit, two walks and a strikeout. Got the last out in the eighth but was charged with two runs after giving up a double and two walks. ERA is now 5.48.
  • Clayton McCullough, Miami Marlins (manager): Lost 5-2 to Pirates to drop to 25-41 on season

Triple-A

  • Carson Whisenhunt, Sacramento RiverCats (Giants): Fell to 6-4 after 10-0 loss to Tacoma. Pitched six innings, gave up five runs on five hits with five strikeouts and three walks. Gave up a grand slam in the fourth inning that was the big difference.

Double-A

  • Trey Yesavage, New Hampshire Fisher Cats (Blue Jays): Did not pitch in 5-4 win over Reading.
  • Carter Spivey, Akron Rubber Ducks (Guardians): Did not pitch in 6-2 win over Hartford
  • Trey Benton, Akron Rubber Ducks (Guardians): On season-ending disabled list

Single-A

  • Carter Cunningham, Vancouver Canadians (Blue Jays): Was 1-for-4 in 8-4 win over Spokane
