Pirates in baseball: Carter Cunningham draws three more walks, helps Vancouver win

East Carolina alum Carter Cunningham continued his recent success at the plate as Vancouver beat Hillsboro, 15-4, on Tuesday.

Playing at first base, Cunningham went 1-for-2 with a run, two RBI and three walks in the win. He had his fifth double of the season in the second inning to drive in one of his runs. He later scored in the inning.

He drew walks in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings. He has now drawn six walks in two games and 13 in the past seven games. He has more walks in May (23) than hits (18).

Fellow ECU alum Trey Yesavage did not pitch for Vancouver. He is slated to pitch on Friday.

  • Shawn Armstrong, Texas Rangers: Pitched 1.2 innings in 2-0 win over Blue Jays. He walked two in the sixth and seventh innings and lowered his ERA to 3.97.
  • Gavin Williams, Cleveland Guardians: Did not pitch in 9-5 loss to Dodgers
  • Jeff Hoffman, Toronto Blue Jays: Did not pitch in 2-0 loss to Rangers
  • Zach Agnos, Colorado Rockies: Pitched the ninth inning and struck out one in 4-3 loss to Cubs in 11 innings. 
  • Clayton McCullough, Miami Marlins (manager): Team lost 8-6 to drop to 21-32.

Triple-A

  • Carson Whisenhunt, Sacramento RiverCats (San Francisco Giants): Did not pitch in 9-5 loss to El Paso.

Double-A

  • Carter Spivey, Akron Rubber Ducks (Guardians): Did not pitch in 6-1 win over Somerset
  • Trey Benton, Akron Rubber Ducks (Guardians): On season-ending disabled list
