Pirates in baseball: Yesavage shines for Vancouver; Armstrong gets win, McCrystal, Moylan help get victories

by | May 26, 2025

Trey Yesavage had his second solid start in a week for the Vancouver Canadians on Sunday.

The East Carolina baseball alumni started again against Eugene and went four innings, giving up a hit with three walks and nine strikeouts. He left with a 2-0 lead.

Eugene tied the game in the bottom of the ninth, but the Canadians scored seven times in the 10th inning to win it, 9-2. Fellow ECU alum Carter Cunningham, playing at first base, was 1-for-2 with a run and three walks. He doubled and scored in the 10th to cap the scoring for the Canadians.

Though Yesavage has only pitched eight innings in his two starts, he has 19 strikeouts, six walks, and given up two earned runs on three hits. This season, he’s pitched 41.1 innings with 11 earned runs, 22 hits, 14 walks and 74 strikeouts.

Also of note is Cunningham’s patience at the plate. He’s drawn 20 walks in May while getting 16 hits in 51 plate appearances, scoring 11 times.

Shawn Armstrong

He improved his record to 2-1 and lowered his ERA to 4.29 after winning for the Texas Rangers in a 5-4 victory over the Chicago White Sox.

He came on in the seventh inning and finished up the eighth. He gave up no runs and no hits with three strikeouts. Texas scored three in the bottom of the ninth to give him the win.
