Pirates in baseball: Trey Yesavage gets second win, Jenkins-Cowart homers twice

by | May 8, 2025

While it wasn’t his best outing of the season, former ECU baseball star Trey Yesavage did get his second win of the season on Wednesday.

Yesavage improved to 2-0 with a 2.22 ERA after a 7-3 win by Dunedin over Fort Myers. He started and went five innings, giving up three runs, one earned, on two hits with seven strikeouts.

He gave up a two-run homer in the third inning to knot the game at 3-3 after an error by the Blue Jays a batter earlier. Despite that, he looked sharp again with the strikeouts, including two in the second and two in the fourth.

It marked the fourth straight game he’s had seven or more strikeouts, following two 10-strikeout games and a game where he fanned eight in his last outing.

Jacob Jenkins-Cowart

He hit his first two homers of the season and third of his pro career in Jupiter’s 9-8 loss to Palm Beach.

He hit a two-run homer in the fifth inning to tie the game at 4-all. He hit a solo homer in the seventh after Palm Beach had gotten the lead, cutting the margin to 9-5.

He finished 2-for-5 with three runs and three RBI to raise his batting average to .250.

It was not a good night for closers in the majors as Zach Agnos and Jeff Hoffman each took losses on Wednesday. See below to find out what the rest of the Pirates in baseball did on Wednesday.
