It’s a question that has already come up at least once in the past week. Is it time for the Toronto Blue Jays to promote ECU baseball alum Trey Yesavage?
The discussion began last week after he recorded back-to-back 10-strikeout starts. His last start was an eight-strikeout performance where he got his first win and earned Florida Coast League Pitcher of the Week.
After five starts, Yesavage is 1-0 with a 2.31 ERA, 36 strikeouts and eight walks in 23.1 innings. Batters are hitting .163 against him.
JaysJournal.com was one of the first publications to ask the question, right before his last start. Now, Sports Illustrated is doing the same with its latest online article.
Matt Postins wrote in part, “It seems clear that Yesavage, who pitched three years of college baseball, may need to be at a more challenging level of the Blue Jays’ minor league system, perhaps High-A Vancouver.”
