Former East Carolina football receiver Winston Wright Jr. got the call he had been waiting for last Sunday.
He heard from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who extended an invitation for him to join their rookie minicamp next month. It’s the chance he’s been waiting for to not only show what kind of talents he has but also to hopefully make it on an NFL team.
Wright started his college career at West Virginia. In 2022, he transferred to Florida State but suffered through a car crash that left him with a bad leg injury during his first season. He eventually left FSU with only four catches for 36 yards and three kick returns for 85 yards.
He got a fresh start at ECU and made the most of it. He started 10 of 11 games this past season, catching 54 passes for 556 yards and eight touchdowns.
There were some who thought he could hear his name drafted. While that didn’t happen, he’s got a chance to prove his worth coming up in the next month.
