Pirates in baseball: Checking in on the season stats of ECU alumni

It was a quiet Monday in baseball for East Carolina University alumni.

Only two teams involving former Pirates were in action, the Blue Jays and Cardinals. Toronto reliever Jeff Hoffman did not pitch, and St. Louis’ Alec Burleson did not get a hit in his only at-bat late playing first base late in Monday’s game.

The minor leagues are typically off on Mondays.

Below are statistics for the season for each former ECU player in the majors and minors through Monday.

Major League Baseball

  • Connor Norby, Miami Marlins: On 10-day injured list with oblique. No stats this season.
  • Alec Burleson, St. Louis Cardinals: Was 0-for-1 after taking over first base late in an 8-3 win over Houston. Burleson’s season stats: 16 games, batting .255, (12-for-47), 5 runs, 3 2Bs, 5 RBIs, 4 walks.
  • Shawn Armstrong, Texas Rangers: 1-0, 4.50 ERA in three games, 6 IP, 1 hold, 4 runs, 3 earned, 2 walks, 9 strikeouts, batters hitting .250.
  • Gavin Williams, Cleveland Guardians: 1-0, 3.46 ERA in three starts, 13 IP, 12 hits, 7 runs, 5 earned, 6 walks, 14 strikeouts, batters hitting .240.
  • Jeff Hoffman, Toronto Blue Jays: Did not pitch in 8-4 loss to Atlanta. 2-0, 0.96 ERA in eight games, 9.1 IP, 5 hits, 1 run, 1 earned run, 1 walk, 13 strikeouts, batters hitting .161
  • Clayton McCullough, Miami Marlins (manager): Team had Monday off. Team is 8-7 overall, 2.5 games back in NL East, 5-5 in its last 10 games. Marlins are 25th in hitting (.253 average), 29th in pitching (4.07 ERA)

Triple-A

  • Carson Whisenhunt, Sacramento RiverCats (San Francisco Giants): 1-2 with 3.86 ERA in three starts. 14 IP, 16 hits, 6 runs, 6 earned, 1 walk, 14 strikeouts, batters hitting .291
  • Zach Agnos, Albuquerque Isotopes (Colorado Rockies): 0-0 record, 1.42 ERA in five games, 1 save, 6.1 IP, 2 hits, 1 run, 1 earned, 2 walks, 10 strikeouts, batters hitting .091.

Double-A

  • Carter Spivey, Akron Rubber Ducks (Guardians): 0-0, 5.79 ERA with Columbus Clippers and Rubber Ducks. 4.2 IP, 4 hits, 3 runs, 3 earned, 2 walks, 6 strikeouts, batters hitting .235
  • Trey Benton, Akron Rubber Ducks (Guardians): On season-ending disabled list

Single-A
