Pirates in baseball: Hoffman solid again in no-save appearance for Jays

by | Apr 8, 2025

It was a rather slow Monday across Major League Baseball and the minors.

Not only was it the day of the NCAA National Championship game, Mondays are typically an off day for minor-league teams. It’s also a smaller schedule in the majors.

However, Toronto Blue Jays reliever and ECU alum Jeff Hoffman was hard at it again against the Boston Red Sox. The Blue Jays won, 6-2, so there was no save opportunity on hand for Hoffman. Still, he delivered as only he could.

Hoffman got hot-hitting Wilyer Abreu to strike out swinging for the first out for the Red Sox. He then coaxed a groundout to Carlos Narvaez and forced David Hamilton to fly out to end it.

Hoffman and Toronto’s pitching limited Boston to five hits on Monday. The win also came on the same day as it was reported that Blue Jays first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. got a 14-year, $500 million contract.

Here’s how the rest of the Pirates in the majors did on Monday. Minor league baseball takes Mondays off, so there is no new report on those athletes.
