Season ends for ECU women after loss to North Texas

The East Carolina women’s basketball team saw its run in the AAC Tournament end after a 69-58 loss to North Texas on Monday.

The Pirates ended their season at 17-15.

FORT WORTH, Texas – No. 2 seed North Texas defeated No. 7 seed East Carolina, 69-58, in the quarterfinals of the 2025 American Women’s Basketball Championship on Monday evening, March 10, at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas.

With the win, the Mean Green (24-7) will play the winner of South Florida and Tulane in the semifinals on Tuesday, March 11 at 9 p.m. ET/8 p.m. CT on ESPN+. This is the Mean Green’s first American Championship semifinal and move to 1-1 all-time in the Championship.

East Carolina (17-15) went from shooting 17.6 percent (3-for-17) from the floor in the first quarter to going 8-for-15 (53.3 percent) in the second quarter and led 25-22 at halftime.

Trailing 29-26 with 6:43 left in the third quarter, Tommisha Lampkin’s free throw started a 14-2 run to give North Texas a 40-31 lead. North Texas scored 23 points in the third quarter, led by Jaelyn Talley, who scored nine points on 4-for-4 shooting.

East Carolina (11) and North Texas (6) combined for 17 blocks in the game, one shy of the Championship single-game record set in 2021 between in Houston (12) and Cincinnati (6).
