Former ECU pitcher Ben Terwilliger to retire from pro baseball

Former ECU pitcher Ben Terwilliger has announced his retirement from professional baseball.

The Florence Y’alls posted the news to X and Terwilliger shared the news to his X account.

The Florence post read, “All-Star Pitcher, Ben Terwilliger has Officially announced his Retirement. We’re proud to have had you in Kentucky Pinstripes! #26.”

Terwilliger wrote on his account, “Thankful to have played for this long! Honored to have had shared the field with some of the absolute best humans and ballers on the planet. Hundreds of new friends along with it! Accomplished my childhood dream! Next dream here we come!!”

He played two seasons at Maine and then played two seasons at Barry before coming to ECU. He pitched during the 2022 season, compiling a 2-0 record in 35 innings with a 3.86 ERA and five saves. He gave up 25 hits, 15 runs, all earned, with 46 strikeouts and 13 walks.

He pitched in 2024 for Florence, an independent team in the Frontier League. He had a 4-2 record with five saves and a 4.75 ERA. He struck out 39 in 36 innings.
