ECU signee scores four touchdowns in NC Shrine Bowl win

by | Dec 22, 2024

ECU football signee Johnny Williams earned MVP honors for the North Carolina Shrine Bowl team in Saturday’s 49-24 victory over South Carolina.

The Shrine Bowl pits some of the top high school football players from both states. Williams, a senior from Havelock, originally committed to ECU but de-committed after then-head coach Mike Houston was fired. However, on National Signing Day back in November, he inked a deal with the Pirates.

In Saturday’s game, Williams scored four touchdowns to help the Tarheel team. He rushed five times for 27 yards and three touchdowns then caught a 51-yard pass for his fourth touchdown.

Another future Pirate who had a great game was Stephen Collier, a running back from River Bluff High School in Lexington, S.C. He had 113 yards and two touchdowns in the loss.
