COLUMBIA, S.C. – The East Carolina women’s basketball team dropped a difficult road contest at No. 1 South Carolina, 95-44, on Sunday afternoon in Colonial Life Arena. With the result, the Pirates drop to 0-13 all time against No. 1 ranked teams.

The Gamecocks (4-0) got a dominant effort which saw every player who touched the court score, led by Chloe Kitts’ 14 points and seven rebounds. Four other South Carolina players scored in double figures: Joyce Edwards (12), MiLaysa Fulwiley (12), Sania Feagan (10) and Bree Hall (10). The hosts jumped out to a 13-0 lead to start the game and never looked back to the tune of a 20-5 lead after a quarter and a 49-10 margin at the halftime break. The story was much the same in the second half with quarters of 19-10 and 27-19.

Amiya Joyner was a bright spot for the Pirates (2-2) despite the result, posting 25 points and 10 rebounds in the game. 25 points was just two off of a career high and marked her sixth career 20-point game. The double-double was the second of the season for the junior and the 28th of her career. Joyner scored 20 of her points in the second half with seven of her rebounds coming in the closing 20 minutes.

Notably, with 18,000 in attendance, the garnet-clad crowd represented the biggest the Pirates have played in front of in program history. With the win, the Gamecocks earned their program-record tying 42nd-consecutive victory, tied for seventh best in NCAA history.
